i looooove all the bugs! Hank is looking great too. Do you ever visual your creations moving or is designing special moments (& composition, great linework, textures, & color!) more how your brain works?
Hello Doctor. If you mean visualize them as animation, no, not really. I often make little animated trailers for my books (the ones I write), and I'd love to see them on a screen one day. But when I design the characters and scenes I am not taking any of that into account.
If you mean do I see them in my head, walking around and doing things, then very much yes. I think of the illustrations, especially for these insects, as being like little stages. I imagine the characters hopping here and there, and reacting, and moving around, for sure.
I like all your banal little things. Your bit about photography made me think about the importance of slowing down and taking my time. I love photography, but often shoot more hoping to weed out rather than slowing down and waiting for the right moment.
I went out today in my bike. In order to get a photo I have to stop the bike. I click the three-point strap that holds the camera nice and snug. Set aperture. Find focus. Then once picture is taken, snap the strap and get back on bike.
Ha! I don't carry it, no, but the guy who traded it to me included a perfect sized Pelican case, so I suppose I could. That's so cool about Honda (then again, what isn't?). I think I have a friend who was at the same show. He drove down from Connecticut to attend.
I still have the old Nikon and lenses from high school. Tedious... yes. I don't use them much anymore. The niece is the Photographer (even paid) but her cameras are much fancier. I've always loved your otter pictures. You capture their whimsey. I went swimming with them years ago - they are like 3 year olds hopped up on Fun Dip. Loved every minute.
As long as there is cat content, I'm here.

It really does force me to be deliberate.
I wish I was able to get into the habit of carrying my camera with me, but I never did, and eventually traded it — for a Yamaha Tenori-on :)
Do you carry around the Tenori-On?
Speaking of which, I saw Nels Cline and Yuka Honda several weeks ago - maybe I told you this Marc - and she was goofing with a Tenori-On. Vintage!
